Ripe Tomatoes

Garth Brown |

In past posts I’ve mentioned the little greenhouse in which I planted tomatoes, peppers, melons, and basil. The one big disappointment has been the pepper plants, which have hardly set any fruit, with some plants setting none at all. I suspect the temperature extremes are the problem, but I’m not sure. Maybe this just isn’t the right climate for pepper production.

But everything else is humming along nicely. The melons should be ready soon, though they’re taking longer to fully ripen than I had expected. The basil has done wonderfully, and this week, for the first time since moving to the farm, I had a fully ripe heirloom tomato from our own garden. It was a Striped German, and it was delicious.
