Regular readers of the blog may have noticed the dearth of posts recently. Nothing bad has happened here... just life's busy-ness cramped my style.
I turned 36 a few days ago and had chocolate cake with whipped cream and raspberry syrup. Only the raspberries came from my garden. I don't know anyone growing cacao in New York. I've taken a few liberties with the rules over the last 10 months or so, but they've been few and far between. Since the beginning of November I've been feeling pretty done with this project though, and I decided that ending my 'year-long' adventure in super local consumption was what I wanted for my birthday. So 6 weeks short of an actual calendar year I decided to quit. I thought maybe I'd wait for Thanksgiving, but Normandy promptly convinced me otherwise. So, this is my announcement that I'm finished, and actually have been for a few days now.
I intend to write a summary of some sort in the near future. I may be too easy going, but for what it's worth I don't feel guilty for quitting just short of my completely ridiculous and arbitrary goal of going a full year on homegrown food. Life is more fun with greater variety and no imposition of limited ingredient restrictions on any meals.
