Edmund and Garth are brothers who began Cairncrest Farm in 2010 together with their wives Normandy Alden and Alanna Rose. All four of us grew up in Bryn Athyn, PA and have since made our home here in upstate NY. We have a vision of a vibrant food system strengthened with our commitment to land stewardship, healthy and delicious food, and humane animal treatment. We believe the best way to meet these goals is to produce top notch, 100% grass-fed lamb, , and pastured poultry.
Alanna has a BFA from the University of Pennsylvania and a 4 year Certificate in painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She maintains a studio practice limited by the demands of parenthood, as well as doing freelance illustration work. For Cairncrest Farm she communicates with customers and serves as a manager and bookkeeper.
Garth has a degree in English from Columbia University. Most of the year he spends his days moving our animals for rotational grazing, repairing and building farm infrastructure, managing inventory, and doing delivery. In the quieter winter months he still pursues his writing, and he's in charge of our weekly updates on the Cairncrest blog and newsletter.
Normandy has a M.F.A. in ceramics from the University of Nebraska. She is a studio potter and teaches part-time at Hartwick College. She manages our farm’s website, shoots and edits our photos and does occasional blog posts.
Edmund has a degree in biology from Bryn Athyn College. He devotes his time to managing animal herds to provide optimal grazing, building farm things like fences and waterlines, doing deliveries to the suburbs and cities we serve, and keeping our inventory up to date. He is a frequent contributor to our blog.
Oban is an English Shepherd. He herds animals and helps keep the local groundhog population under control. He is enthusiastic about everything, and he doesn't smell very good in the summer.
